Myths About Video Games…get informed

Hey! I actually found an article that isn’t  against video games/gamers…and it’s a PBS website…Wow! Who would have though that someone (a huge community like PBS) would be posing a counterargument to video gaming? Interesting…

Check out  http://www.pbs.org/kcts/videogamerevolution/impact/myths.html and post a one paragraph response where you tell me what you think of these myths.  Be sure to write at least 5-7 sentences, and pay attention to the sources this article draws on.

  1. PBS had some valuable points. I love playing video games sometimes some violent but i do it to ease my pain in a way. I love that I have the option of being able to take my aggression out on a video game. I dont play too many computer games online..only the sims because i love that game and i can create the house I want pick the career I want and ill be on it for hours. Most games are for older people and I really doubt a child could play games like Halo or Call of Duty. Even if they tried it would be too hard. I love video games and i see nothing wrong with them.

  2. In my opinion i think that video games do influnce young teenagers to commit certain violent acts. Video games are mainly targeted toward young innocent children and teenagers who might be drawn and even brainwashed into believing fictional actions that oocur throughout the game. Parents should pay attention to the level content of the game their children are playing beacuse this may impact their live in a positive or negative way.

What this article says I somewhat agree with. Im a girl gamer and believe me I have some girlfriends of min that play more video games than wacht some idiotic show on television. It’s true that parents should wacht out what there kids are playing but as young adult I think we can play matura games and not act out to what the character’s actions do in their vitual enviroment. And i do agree that video game is great way for entertainment for anyone who wants to set aside reality and play a game that is out of this world dimension.

I agree with some of what the article says. I believe that violent video games do enhance aggressive thoughts toward situations. Violent video games provide you with an idea that if you were in a situation you could do that to survive. It makes people think that if they might get into a conflict in real life they might try and use something they have seen on a game. Also that by playing some violent video games you might start to have aggressive thoughts. It might cause you to have a shorter temper and lash out more quickly because you get frustrated more easily. With this i can see that video games do have an affect on a person’s mind, and can possibly create a more violent person.

I think that this article is truth most of the video games in todays society in soomeway or another lead to violence. We that are already adults know what we are doing and know that all of that is fictional. The thing is that they are not selling this to us they are selling it to our youth that are innocent and do not knoe better they think thta it is all a game and sometyimes do this in reality just beacuse of the mere fact thtat they think this is nothimg but a game. so indeed i think this article is correct most of the videogames of today just portray a messsage of violence.

This article is awesome. The article speaks nothing but the truth. I’m glad that there’s finally an article that portrays video games in a positive light. People are always trying to say how terrible video games are or how video games are designed to rot our minds with violence and other terrible values. Video games are completly harmless and are a great source of entertainment.

Interesting topic. i am all for video games so i do agree to this article because i play with my family all time and i never experienced any negative effects. Parents should be more aware when buying mature content games for their kids if they believe that violence will corrupt their children. i remember watching this show on the national geographic channel about how the concept of video games are being used for medical, and pilot training, which i thought was pretty cool.

This article is saying many common myths about video games. Video games can lead to violence. So can watching violent movies or anything violent on television. Playing video games especially ones where you can kill everyone and everything are the best. I’m just kidding their is many video games which are really good and some really awful ones that are violent.(Please note that some of these games may not be the best but they are really fun to play with. In the end that is what video games are supposed to do, be fun. Here are some that aren’t violent; Sid Miers Civilization Revolution, Nba 2k10, The Bigs 2, Lego Batman, Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, Need For Speed:Shift, Forza Motorsport 3, Rock Band 1 and 2 and The Beatles, Guitar Hero 5(Rock Band is better), Madden 10, Monopoly, The Simpson’s. Now here are the violent ones; Cod 4 and World at War, Gears of War 2, The Godfather, Fallout3, Bioshock, Hitman blood money, Left 4 dead, Batman arkham asylum, Silent hill homecoming, Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X and Fable 2. Many games both violent and non-violent allow us to interact and experience situations we normally wouldn’t or would experience in the real world. Like in Fallout 3 while on a quest i had the option of either blowing up a atomic bomb and killing everyone in the town, or deactivate the bomb and save everyone. I saved the people but later i went back and blew the town up. I felt bad so what i did was reload the game and i just left the bomb alone. I was neutral about it. In case your wondering no im not a xbot fanboy. I like ps3 and wish i had one. Add me on live my gamertag is CASUALDECAY. l

When it comes to video games, it’s the parent’s responsibility to know what video game their children are playing. If the parents are well aware of what video games are okay for their children to play everything should be good. Just by simply looking at the ratings or even the pictures the cover had. Obviously you shouldn’t buy a video game for a 14 year old that’s rated Mature Audience, and has a lot of blood graphics. Yes there are a lot more violent games out there but there are many out there that exclude violence.
